Area Council Four backs State of Emergency

The Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Area Council Four which encompasses the parishes of St. James, Trelawny, Hanover, Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth; yesterday welcomed the State of Public Emergency (SOE) that has been implemented in the parish of St. James.

The Area Council, which staged its monthly meeting on Sunday January 21st at Bennett’s Place in St. Elizabeth South Western, commended the Prime Minister on his firm and decisive leadership and urged the security forces to utilize the increased powers under the SOE to bring the violence producers to book.

“This is an opportunity to take back St. James from the pervasive under world that has placed a stranglehold on the parish and the city of Montego Bay.

“We urge all well thinking Jamaicans to cooperate with the security forces and share all information that they may have to ensure that the State of emergency is effective in ridding St. James of these criminal elements;” said Area Council Chairman, Floyd Green.

The Area Council asked the Security Forces to establish the appropriate check points in the adjoining parishes so as to prevent criminal elements from relocating to these parishes.

“If you see strange faces in your area call the police, now is the time for all Jamaicans to take a stand against every form of criminality;” Green concluded.
