Charles thrashed Lambert properly to win By-Election

The Jamaica Labour Party’s, JLP candidate, Pearnel Charles Jr. has won the by-election in South East Clarendon.

Charles Jr, a former Senator and Cabinet Minister who’s the son of veteran MP and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Pearnel Charles Senior ran against the Independent candidate, Derrick Lambert.

Charles Jr amassed 6,845, with all 135 boxes counted.

Only 738 people voted for his challenger.

There were over 41 thousand registered voters in the constituency, as per the November 30, 2019 voters’ list.

But only 7,583 people voted, representing a voter turnout of 18.3%.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness called the contest to replace former Member of Parliament Rudyard Spencer, who resigned last month to take up a diplomatic posting.
