The deep division within the Opposition Peoples National Party (PNP) has resurface with a vengeance, after Tuesday’s disaster on Twitter, when the official account of the Party Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips posted a poll that backfired spectacularly.
Comrades on Social media has been up in arms over what some are calling a Major embarrassment to the party and it’s leader. That anger seems to be directed at one particular person: Imani Duncan. Imani Duncan is the daughter of one time Communist, and PNP veteran, DK Duncan. She is also the Chief of Staff to the party leader Dr. Phillips.
Screenshots of a post made on Facebook from one of the groups aligned to the PNP, obtained by LBC NEWS, lays bare the deep divisions within the party, as one blogger said the Duncan’s where trying to take over the pnp. The blogger list some of the strategies of the Duncan’s in trying to take over the PNP:
- Marrying Manley’s wife
- Getting two of the Duncan’s daughter into Parliament
- Leaving the PNP and joining the NDM, then returning and getting close to PSM (Portia Simpson-Miller) with a Duncan Agenda.
The vitriol didn’t stop there as the blogger unloaded on Imani Duncan, saying: ‘I smell a conspiracy.’ The blogger tore into the Duncan’s declaring that Imani Duncan must leave the party leader office now as her goals are counterproductive to the party’s own.
He lashed the Duncan’s saying the Duncan’s want to lead the party.
He ended with a warning that if the party leader didn’t remove her he would suffer the consequences.
In the Twitter poll on Tuesday,Phillips asked whether or not Jamaicans we’re better off now than two years ago. The obvious aim of the poll was for persons to vote no. It backfired spectacularly when just under 70% of the respondents said yes they were better off. The Tweet was mocked mercilessly with even the Prime Minister’s account handlers trolling Dr. Phillips.
As the fallout continues the divisions within the party since it’s stunning lost to the JLP in 2016, continues to rise to the top even as the party struggles to gain traction under Phillips, who many are now questioning whether he has what it takes to beat an energized and we’ll oiled JLP Election machinery.
