Head of the young professional arm of the Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP ), Steven Edwards has come out swinging against the annoucement of the PNP candidate to replace Winston Green who died suddenly a few weeks ago.
In a Facebook post this morning Mr. Edwards had this to say:
This morning I woke up to news that the PNP named Dr. Shane Alexis as their candidate for the pending by-election for the SE St. Mary seat. While I welcome Dr. Alexis to the arena I am very disappointed that this announcement came before MP Dr. Winston Green could be laid to rest.
The PNP’s naming of a replacement for Dr. Green before the county had a chance to pay its last respects to him, is an insult to Dr. Green and the work he may have done for the country. These types of cold and insensitive actions make it difficult to attract young persons to politics. And we wonder why there is widespread voter apathy in Jamaica.
I hope that this type of disrespect is never shown to another deceased representative of the people of Jamaica, regardless of party affiliation, or any other demographic. What is politics without compassion and humanity? Shame on you PNP !
Rest in Peace Dr. Winston Green, MP
