More Guns taken off the street says Police

Latest crime statistics compiled by the police show that up to November 4, the police recovered 739 guns, or 219 more than the number seized for the corresponding period last year.

The data show that pistols account for the majority of illegal guns seized by the police with 478 recovered so far this year.

The police also recovered 20,716 rounds of ammunition.

The seizure is a significant jump when compared to the 7,372 that were recovered over the similar period last year.

Meanwhile, the crime statistics indicate that 70 guns were reported stolen during the reporting period of January 1 to November 4.

The police say 2,116 rounds of ammunition were also reported stolen.

In the meantime, the data show that the gun continues to play a major role in murders.

Of the 1,359 persons murdered so far this year, 1,113 were killed by a gun.

A gun was also used in 670 robberies and 54 cases of rapes.
