Hundreds of Rounds of Ammunition found since the start of the year

Since the start of the year, the Police have continued the “Get the Guns” Initiative and have been working assiduously to remove illegal guns from our nation’s streets.

The latest statistics have revealed that since January 01 the lawmen seized 449 guns and 7,899 rounds of ammunition.

Area Four which comprises of Kingston Central, Kingston East, Kingston West, St. Andrew Central and St. Andrew South accounted for 30% (135) of the firearms seized. They were closely followed by Area One, which comprises of Hanover, St. James, Trelawny and Westmoreland that accounted for 28% (128) of the firearms seized. The majority of the assorted rounds of ammunition seized for the period, 51% (4015 rounds) was seized in Area One with St. James alone accounting for 44% (3476 rounds) of the ammunition seized in the country. Area Four accounted for 20% (1556 rounds) of the ammunition seized for the period.

Portland and St. Mary had the least significant figures for both firearm and ammunition seizures with Portland only recording three firearm seizures (0.1%) and St. Mary recording eight firearm seizures (1.8%) for the review period.
