Dr. Peter Phillips speaking at the 79th General Conference now underway in Kingston, lashed the Government over a host of different things. From Light Bills to Gas Tax, he accused the Government of failings.

But one of the things he made mentioned of that is glaringly not true is that Unemployment and Poverty is up since the JLP took power. His source of evidence? Well, he said it is from walking up and down over the country and hearing people.

But what does the evidence say, the real evidence that is? In April 2017 the Labour Force Survey carried out by Government agencies like STATIN, showed that 35,800 more individuals were employed in April 2017 when compared with the similar period in April 2016. That led to a drop in the Unemployment Rate to 12.2.

Compare that to the time when Peter Phillips was Minister of Finance in 2015. In January 2015, the unemployment rate was 14.2 Percent up 7.5 percent compared to 2014. In 2014 when Phillips was Finance Minister the Unemployment rate was 13.4 percent as reported by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN).

Unemployment under Phillips was particularly bad for the Youths. It stood at a whopping 34.5 percent in January 2015.

Under the Current administration poverty and unemployment has dropped considerably across the Board. So it is not true that unemployment has risen under the JLP. It is grossly irresponsible for the Leader of the Opposition to lie in such a blatant manner.

LBC NEWS assigns 10 Pinocchio’s to Dr. Phillips for that remark.
