More bloodletting is underway in the People’s National Party ( PNP ) as word has emerged that there is to be a high level meeting held this evening to decide if Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller should continue beyond next month.
The latest round of infighting stems from some persons want Mrs. Miller to remain until after the budget debate in April. The thinking behind that position is to give Mrs. Miller a final budget presentation before she leaves as Opposition leader. But others are of a different view, saying she shouldn’t stay beyond March, to allow Peter Phillips to make his budget presentation as Opposition leader.
Peter Phillips who will become the new Leader of the Opposition, was given the position largely as a long service award after been severely beaten by Portia Simpson Miller twice when he challenged her for the top spot. Mrs. Simpson Miller was forced out late last year after getting a second straight beaten in a year from the Andrew Holness led Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP ).
