St. Mary, Jamaica-
Of all the photos and the many different things that has surfaced out of the campaign in Southeastern St. Mary, none has seemingly captured the imagination and warm the heart of so many like the ones whereby Prime Minister Andrew Holness was captured rolling up his pants legs and wading into a stream of water.
And he didn’t stop there. He continued campaigning barefooted in the area. And there is one of the fundamental fact that makes this Prime Minister different and loved by so many people-people can identify with him.
To many he is relatable like a Father is to a Son. Others can relate to him as a Brother, a Friend or the guy you can have a drink with. That human touch makes him endearing to many. Other Prime Ministers has also from time to time been able to be human. Somebody that people loves. But Andrew Holness has taken it to a whole new level.
It’s not only about turning up and hugging babies at special occasions. Many people know that politician love to hug babies because it makes them look good. Come on, who doesn’t love babies? Holness however is willing to be with the people in a whole new way. By taking off his shoes, and stepping out barefooted, he is actually sharing the people’s experience of everyday life. That’s powerful in a number of ways.
Because people can easily identify with him, he is readily accepted by many, as the people’s prime minister. He is one of us. An everyday Joe. A man of the people. An inspiring and warm leader. He is truly our Prime Minister.
