Today, the Jamaica Labour Party is labelling the PNP as “a drowning party, clutching at straws”.

The JLP takes note of the inaccurate comments of Kingston & St Andrew Mayor Dr Angella Brown Burke regarding the release of funds to Parish Councils at the end of October.

However, it is important that the record of truth be set straight for the public. The Minister of Local Government, Hon. Desmond Mckenzie at the JLP Councilor Caucus meeting held at the Jamaica Conference Center, today November 3^rd, 2016 stated clearly that the process by which funds should be released was not being adhered to. That it is the well-established procedure that project proposals should be submitted to the Ministry of Local Government for approval before work commences.

The Jamaica Labour Party came to Government on a platform of performance, humility, transparency and accountability. These principles will be upheld. However, it is clear that these principles are not being upheld by the PNP controlled Parish councils, as evidenced by the numerous investigations into these local authorities.

Minister McKenzie further said “this JLP administration, will uphold the processes and procedures of good governance, and we will deliver our promised prosperity for all without flouting the rules of governance as the PNP has”

The Minister further added, that as at November 28^th, the days of PNP controlled Councils are at an end.
