Uproar over Jamaica Gleaner fake news story

Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA) President, Dr. Elon Thompson, rejects as false a Gleaner newspaper report that Doctors & Nurses in JA have tested positive for COVID-19.

The JMDA boss says the report is gravely erroneous and is urging “responsible journalism”.

The false newspaper report had led to speculation about the accurate number of COVID-19 cases in JA

PNP functionaries, including its Deputy General Secretary Basil Waite had also used the false report to accuse the Government of PM Holness of deliberately misleading the country.

The Nurses Association of Jamaica has added their voice to the chorus of condemnation been levelled at the Gleaner over a fake news story it carried this morning.

The Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) President, Carmen Johnson rejects as unfortunate and untrue Gleaner report that Nurses and Doctors in Jamaica have tested positive for COVID-19.

Ms. Johnson says the report has increased fear among Nurses.
