As the government pushes to clamp down on lawlessness in the Country, Doctors at Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James, is calling on the Government to implement more Zones of Special Operations ( ZOSO ) across the Parish.
Why? It has caused a dramatic drop in the amount of trauma cases the Hospital is now seeing. Doctors are now reporting that previous to the declaration of ZOSO, they were seeing up to a dozen cases per week. That has now dropped to just two since ZOSO’s declaration.
Previous to ZOSO, hospital workers were complaining of burn out. Now as one Doctors puts it: they can now rest easy.
Dr. Delroy Fray of Cornwall Region Hospital said: “There is a definite decrease in the incident of gunshot wounds that are coming in here, there is no question about that, so, that initiative has certainly allowed our lives to be much more comfortable. And we are looking forward to sustaining this, because as it was before, it wouldnt be possible to maintain that type of activity for a very long time, because staff burn out, so we welcome this little time when we can rest.”…Dr. Fray said…”It is my impression that we should, I have no doubt that it is necessary, based on what we have seen here.”
With all the badmouthing of the initiative by certain persons, especially the Opposition PNP, it is good news for the initiative.
The dramatic decline in trauma cases show clearly that criminals are taking flight as the Security forces step up the fight against crime.
