The Jamaica Labour Party’s Campaign Chair, Olivia “Babsy” Grange is today confirming the dates of the Magisterial Recounts for St. Catherine North West and St. Ann South East.

The Magisterial Recount for St. Catherine North West will begin tomorrow, September 10 in the St. Catherine Parish Court, Spanish Town, and the St. Ann South East recount is scheduled for September 14 in the St. Ann Parish Court, St. Anns Bay. The recount for the Westmoreland East constituency had already been set for September 11 in the Westmoreland Parish Court, Savannah La Mar, as previously announced.

Miss Grange explained that the St. Catherine North West and St. Ann South East constituencies, contested by JLP candidates Newton Amos and Delroy Granson respectively, were declared for the PNP following the final counts. However, based on an assessment of the rejected ballots the Jamaica Labour Party has sought Magisterial Recount for both. The JLP’s lead Attorney Carolyn Chuck had indicated earlier in the week that the party intended to challenge the final count for the seats.

The Jamaica Labour Party is seeking the Magisterial Recounts in accordance with section 47 of the Representation of the People’s Act. The JLP won 48 of 63 seats contested in the September 3, 2020 General Elections.
